  • The "Open" in Montreal - the last day

GM Bator Sambuev thought the last round started at noon - rather than at 10 am - giving Steve Bolduc a free point and a share of the 7/9 money.

The closing ceremonies had their share of humour. Winners' cheques could be cashed (for a small fee) at the "Royal Bank of Larry Bevand", who had opened an on-site branch with $6500 in cash. Saturday was Tunisia's national day, so Tunisian GM Slim Bouaziz sang the Tunisian national anthem (in Arabic) followed by reading a French translation. Bouaziz was also the last player to play Bobby Fischer in the 1967 Sousse (Tunisia) Interzonal, from which Fisher withdrew with a 8.5-1.5 score. (Bouaziz finished last).
