Thanks John and Garland for these datapoints. I've finally logged in to Ubuntu: Firefox doesn't display any icons or buttons there as well. Firefox, MS Edge, obsolete Internet Explorer under Windows: no buttons either. At this point I'm resigned to writing HTML tags by hand. :)

Armando Valdizon gave up one draw -- from what looked like a very good anti-Benoni/Benko as White -- to Dusan Simic to finish clear first with 4.5/5.

Several players demonstrated the inelasticity of time by showing up their customary 5 minutes late, despite the clocks going back 1 hour last night.

NB: NO RAPID NEXT WEEKEND -- Nov 10-12 -- as there will be an EOCA tournament at the RA Centre then.

      Rapid returns Nov 19.

Ugly crosstable below, since I still see no formatting buttons in Chrome and "view source" does not show me the necessary HTML code:

Unfortunately it seems that this forum will insert a <br> tag for every line of code that is within a table's block of code above the table ...ugh! So, to avoid having a table being pushed wayyyyyy down in a post I created the above table by writing the code line beside line ... instead of the natural order; line under line.

        Hope that helps ...some.

20 players, light snow, no distractions from the Grey Cup crowd. Three players scored 4/5 to share the lead in the race for the giveaway for "The Chess Attacker's Handbook: Paul Beckwith, Christian Collins and David Fei.

So what happens if there is a tie for first after the 3 events? Rip the book?

... and the player with better tie break gets the top half of the book.

Now that Avast can cope with the js exploit on ChessTalk...

The last RA Sunday Rapid of 2017 was held Dec 17. The sixteenish players there got to enjoy Christmas cake (thanks to Gordon Ritchie), and a shot at the current Canadian Women's Champion, WGM Qiyu Zhou.

Dusan Simic and the TD spoiled her afternoon, allowing Christian Collins to nip ahead at the finish line.

No Rapid Dec 24 2017, or Dec 31 2017. The RA Sunday Rapid returns January 7, 2018.
