  • Toronto CMA sets new participation numbers!

Last Sunday 345 youngsters turned out for our first Grand Prix event of the season! For the story go to the new Chess'n Math Association website where we aim to bring you up to-date news on the Canadian Youth chess scene. Go to www.chess-math.org and scroll to the bottom of the page.

If you have something to tell us about, contact the efficient Victoria Jung-Doknjas who also has a talent for writing :)

"Something to tell", yes. In round1, there was a girl raised hand and said that her opponent should not castle since his king was checked earlier even it's never moved yet. The referee, was not sure about this chess rule. He asked a friend, who I believe is another referee, and then told the boy he couldn't castle........

      Hi Henry,

In which section and during which round did this happen?

It's ok Larry. The referee has already realized the mistake later. Plus the boy at the end still won the game.

Its nice to see that we are not the only ones who have trouble finding volunteer Arbiters in junior events. Unfortunately, the people are not always qualified although I think that basic knowledge of the rules of chess should be required for any section.
