  • 2016 CYCC Qualifier tournaments

    Time to turn our attention again to the CYCC qualifiers.
    I am working on a list of qualifier tournaments to post on website, so please can everyone send me your plans to run CYCC qualifier tournaments.

        Eastern Ontario will be on March 28th, Easter Monday.

        New webpage, and registrations, after Family Day,
        and I'll be posting any references on ChessTalk too.

          Windsor will be holding several YCC's including likely several small ones and one really big one as part of the Windsor Chess Challenge playoffs. We will probably hold tournaments until everyone who wants to play in CYCC has qualified. The problem is negotiating the minefields of conflicting tournaments.

            Toronto Youth Chess Championship
            (Qualifiers for 2016 Canadian Youth Chess Championships)
            on May 15th 2016

            Location: Finch & Yonge (Finch subway station) 5635 Yonge Street, Suites 201-202, Toronto, M2M 3S9
            *Please note that TTC parking is free on Sundays

            Time control: SD/30

            Entry fee:
            $30 before April 11th;
            $35 before May 2nd;
            $40 cash only (on-site)

            Payment options are either cash or cheque.
            If you pay by cheque, please make it payable to: Mr. Lebedev.
            Mail Address: 154 Thornway Ave. Thornhill, ON L4J 7Z3

            Registration: 12:45am - 1:45pm
            The player must be actually present on site by 1:45 to play first round game.

            Organizer may combine sections depending on the number of participants.
            Girls can choose to play in open or girl’s section.

            Games will be rated by Chess Federation of Canada (www.chess.ca)
            Games will be also rated by Chess’n Math Association (www.chess-math.org).

            Sections: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18 - Boys and Girls

            Rounds: 5
            Round Times:
            1st -2:00pm,
            2nd -3:05pm,

            5th -6:35pm

            Type: Swiss or Round Robin depending on the number of players in the groups
            Prizes: Medals will be awarded for top 3 finishers in each section.
            This is a qualifying tournament for the 2016 Canadian Youth Chess Championships.
            Players achieving a score of 2.5 or better will qualify to participate in the CYCC.

                  Hello again, getting quite a few emails, will reply to all as soon as I can ...

                  But in the interim, the Eastern Ontario (Ottawa) CYCC Qualifier is still set for it's traditional Easter Monday date, which this year is March 28th. It will again be an all-day chess camp, and in the last few days, I have again secured the assistance of David Gordon, and immensely popular CMA Ottawa teacher, and a FIDE CM. Stay tuned for details ...
