      Changes

      Hi all,

Couple of changes from the previous editions:

A - The added section is now U1300, since the previous tournament still had a lop-sided number of entries.

B - Bye Request policy to be enforced: Participants will continue to be allowed to request total of two times 1/2 (one half) point byes, in Rounds 1-4. All bye requests must be made at the start of the tournament, at the start of Round 1. Bye requests made after the start of the tournament will be zero-point byes. Bye request withdrawals will be subject to arbiter/organizer's discretion.

C - U1900 Section will be registered and submitted to FIDE for rating purposes. Since not as many players in this section have a FIDE rating, we cannot guarantee that participants will have a FIDE-rating after the event. Note that unrated FIDE players need to score 1 point against FIDE-rated opposition, a minimum of 3 games in the same tournament, for the FIDE rating count to begin. We feel that a 6-round event is more ideal to maximize chances of increasing the pool of future FIDE-rated players, and will be rating this edition as an experiment.

Pleased to see this Alex.......to increase the Canadians with FIDE ratings requires more FIDE players for the newbies to play at their level......and the U 1900 section is a prime pool from which to grow our pool of Canadian FIDE-rated players. Though I believe it will not fit in my schedule this time (I love to play at Hart House!), and I am FIDE rated, I at least will encourage U 1900's with FIDE ratings to come out and support this tournament. The newbies need to beat up on you only a bit......1 win out of three, or two draws out of three. And additional games beyond 3 start them toward meeting the 2 year FIDE expiry period.

Good luck with the tournament, Alex.

Just wanted to double-check with you, as it's advertised as a 6-round tournament, no byes for round 5 (the penultimate round)?

As I work nights now I'd only be able to make the afternoon games, I'd have to take 3 byes... but only 2 is allowed?

              Re: Changes

              A 3rd bye, or a Round 5 / Round 6 bye would be a zero-point bye.

Hi Alex, my CFC rating is now 2196. I'm just wondering if you can let me play in the OPEN section without a playing up fee as I am only 4 points away from the rating floor.

                            Hi Alex,

Could tell me if there are any nearby places to eat that will be open on Good Friday? Or should I bring my own food?

                            Thanks.

                              Hi,
7-8 minutes walk in any direction, there are various food options. Though it is Good Friday, not sure what will be open/closed.
