  • Canada's official players NAYCC

Here is a preliminary list for the official players for NAYCC 2016.

Cindy Qiao won NAYCC last year also. She was an official player at Pan Am Youth Festival.

Under 08 Open Atanasov Anthony Oakville
Under 08 Girls Hua Michelle Toronto
Under 10 Open Xie Austin Markham
Under 10 Girls Gilani Mysha Toronto
Under 12 Open Doknjas Neil Surrey, BC
Under 12 Girls Tan Kylie Mississauga

Under 16 Open Jeffry Xin-Yu Zhu Windsor
Under 16 Girls Peng Janet Toronto
Under 18 Open Song Terry Guelph
Under 18 Girls Tao Rachel Windsor

Official players will need to be registered at Caesars Windsor in order to enjoy the benefit of being official player. The hotel is running out of two bed rooms. So you need to reserve your rooms now. There are rollaway and fold out bed/couches available with a king size regular bed. I am told that these beds are comfortable. It may be that we will run out of such rooms soon and have to add a second official hotel.

    HOTEL ONLINE AND TELEPHONE REGISTRATION:

You can click on the following link to reserve a room at Caesars Windsor. We encourage you to do so early so that we have an idea of how many people are coming to the party. If we find out early that more people are coming we will probably increase our room block size. If we find out that the tournament will be smaller than we expected rooms will released back to the hotel for sale. If you decide to register later, this is a busy time of the year for all hotels. They will sell out. Rooms at Caesars routinely go for $279 per night or at least they do when the hotel gets busy. We know because we looked at organizing a February tournament and that's how much people would need to pay to stay in the hotel.

$149.00 Canadian ($102.56 US at today’s exchange rate) weekend double occupancy room Fri, Sat All Hotel prices do not include applicable taxes. These are reduced rates as they have waived the $10 per night resort fee and the $5 reservation fee.

For each of these tournaments we expect to be holding many side events including bughouse, blitz and lectures by noted chess personalities GMs, IMs, FMs, NMs. There will be $10 to $20 fees for side events all of which will be free to players staying in the official hotel Caesars Windsor a four diamond luxury destination.

We are up to 245 players with two months to go if we count the official players from Mexico and the Bahamas.

Thanks for taking time to sort out the 2016 NAYCC Canada's Official Players. I doubt whether the list is accurate.

First, nobody was selected from the U16 boys section from 2015 CYCC, which is the strongest and most competitive section in Canada's chess history. It is not fair for the 2015 CYCC U16 boy players.

Second, some players who got the 2nd or 3rd place or tied 2nd and 3rd place from 2015 CYCC on the published list had received benefits or funds from CFC ( CFC paid registration fee for them) when they went to 2015 WYCC even though they were not the official players. They are still selected as the NAYCC official players, having the accommodation and food. Is it reasonable and acceptable for that section's other players? Should it be moved onto the next place player?

I am looking forward to the reasonable and fair rules to the CYCC players.

        Cathy,

You should contact the CFC's Youth Coordinator. He might have some answers for you.

Thanks Rene for your information! It looks like CFC's Youth Coordinator did not know so much information.

I am much confused after I asked CFC president and 2015 CYCC organizer in person during the end of Canadian Open. CFC president mentioned that the 2015 CYCC organizer sponsored the 2016 NAYCC and the 2015 CYCC organizer said that she did not know the details and CFC made the decision for the 2016 NAYCC. Who has more power, CFC or CYCC organizer? Who sponsors the funds to the WYCC including the 2nd place, 3rd place, tied 2nd and tied 3rd place's registration fees? Who sponsors the fees for the NAYCC official players and decided Canada's official players?

I heard that the overlapped official players for sections was compensated as cash value. Who was compensated from 2015 CYCC U16 to play 2016 NAYCC U18? In addition, if the official player does not live in the hotel which is accommodated, can he/she obtain the equivalent cash value?
