  • FM Victor Plotkin Lecture & Tournament (With Prize fund!) - October 26th

As many of you know, Canada did incredibly well at this year's chess Olympiad, performing well above our seeding, and even playing on board 1 in the final round against USA in contention for a medal! Canada finished 11th in the end, but scored several major upsets along the way and faced tougher opposition than most who placed ahead of us.

To celebrate our breakthrough from "chess tourist" to chess powerhouse, we've invited the Captain of the team, FIDE master Victor Plotkin, to take us through his decisions, key moments, critical positions, and stories from the Olympiad. This is an event you won't want to miss!

    Tournament:
    $20 Entry Fee
    Prize Fund
    U1600 Section: Rapid - 4 rounds
    1600+ Section: Blitz - 4 double rounds
    Registration is at 6:45

Casual play is still only $10 so if you don't want to participate in the tournament you can still enjoy the lecture, watch the tournament, play some casual games and have a drink on us!

Lecture topic/lecturer will change every week so be sure to check back so you don't miss out! We have hosted lectures by internationally renowned players such as WGM Jennifer Shahade and GM Eric Hansen.

Getting there: The Madison Avenue Pub is easily accessible by TTC, as it is located very close to Spadina subway station. If driving, street parking is available and there is also a parking lot across the street on Madison Ave.

Please BYOC, (Bring Your Own Clock), to make sure we have enough :)
And please also RSVP! I'll be posting a pre-reg list here.

Thanks Hugh. I think it's working now, I just can't get the chess.com link to work. In any case, any further details will be posted here on chesstalk and on facebook.

A good turn out and a very captivating lecture by Victor, who also won the tournament!

Nobody won the $10 perfect score bonus so it will be added to the next prize-money tournament in two weeks (details posted shortly).
