  • Teams Active Challenge in Kitchener - June 24

    Host: Kitchener-Waterloo Chess Club

    Date: Saturday June 24th, 2017
    Place: Kitchener City Hall, 200 King St. W., Kitchener, ON
    Intro & History: This annual event has been popular with clubs and groups from Toronto to Windsor, Hamilton, Sudbury, etc. Teams have been made up of players with a wide range of chess experience.
    Rounds: 5
    Approximate Start Times: 10:30 a.m., Lunch, 1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m.
    Type: Active (Quick) Swiss with teams of 4 players from same club, company, or region. Pairing will be by team scores. Board positions are determined by ratings of the team players.
    Time Control: Game in 25 minutes plus 10 seconds added per move (Bronstein)
    Entry Fee: $40 for team of four. Entry for the entire team to be made by team captain. If you want to play but don't have a full team, we may be able to combine you with other players to make a full team.
    CFC membership: required for each player, can be paid on site; Adult $48, Junior $32, One-time tournament $12
    Payment: Cash only at site. There is an ATM on site.
    Team names: Pick a suitable name for your team.
    Prizes: Trophy and cash prizes determined by team scores
    Registration cutoff: 10 a.m. on tournament day at site
    Misc.: Clocks and sets will be supplied. Several restaurants are near the site. Free parking available in Manulife parking lot at SW corner of Charles St. and Water St., one block from the site.

        If you are coming, please pre-register to get the momentum going. In 4 of the past 5 years (one year there was a scheduling conflict with Buffalo and Toronto tournaments) there were teams from Toronto (3+), Milton, Brantford (2), London, Stratford, Kitchener (3+) and University of Waterloo. As far as we are aware, there are no conflicts this time around.
