  • BC Green Party leader a chess player!

According to the Globe and Mail, Saturday, May 13, 2017, BC Green Party leader Dr. Andrew Weaver is a chess player! :)

The Greens currently hold the balance of power in a potential minority parliament, after last week's provincial election. Significant numbers of absentee ballots remain to be counted, and this could change the situation in the weeks ahead.

Weaver, a climate change scientist, and professor at University of Victoria before entering politics, captained the chess team at Oak Bay High School.

Wonder if anyone from BC chess circles knows more about his chess background!?

Andrew Weaver is not on the current CFC rating list. Wikipedia gives his birth year as 1961 or 1962, which would mean mid to late 70's for his high school career.
The 1980 annual rating list shows "Weaver, A" from Victoria with a rating of 1380 on 6 games. No other appearance on any of the rating updates of 1979-80, so it's likely his 6 games were played between the May-June 1980 updates and the July-August 1980 annual list.

Maybe he'll show up at the BC Senior Championship in June
