      Re: 2017 Kitchener-Waterloo Open SEPTEMBER 16-17

      Hi All,

We would like to encourage everyone to sign up as early as possible. Registration is currently very slow but with 78 in the Spring edition and numbers potentially reaching our capacity (based on recent explosion of GTA turnouts) it would give us an early indicator whether we should reserve another room.

Please register ASAP if you are interested in attending.

          Re: 2017 Kitchener-Waterloo Open SEPTEMBER 16-17

Following a recent trend in SW Ontario, we are requiring all registrations with payment in advance. This greatly improves the tournament in several ways:
          • Organizers get a much better idea of how many participants there will be. This allow them to set up the playing facilities accordingly.
          • Pairings can be posted in advance. In this case they will be posted this Friday shortly after 8 p.m.
          • First rounds are notorious for starting late. Now we should be able start on time or very nearly on time.

Note that you can still show up and register at any time, but we can't give you a Swiss pairing after pairings have been posted. You will be matched up with whoever else is available. You will be added to Swiss pairings for subsequent rounds. Note also there is a $10 late registration fee.

Since this is the first time we do online registrations, the process is a bit rough. For instance we show payment through PayPal at the bottom of the registration screen. Not shown, but also available, is the option to pay by email to the following kwchessinfo@gmail.com.

We currently have about 50 persons preregistered. Note that the online list on our website is maintained manually, so there is a time lag between registrations and the list updates.

Also, anyone requiring CFC memberships or renewals will not be able to pay in advance on our site, but can pay at the start of the tournament. You should still register for the tournament in advance.

Finally, there is no risk to registering in advance. You can cancel at any time before this Friday at 8:00 p.m. and you will be fully refunded. You can cancel by sending me a message directly at bclarke1661@rogers.com.

            Re: 2017 Kitchener-Waterloo Open SEPTEMBER 16-17

Preregistration is now closed. We received 67 entries which is a respectable number. The breakdown by section is as follows:
            • 2000+ 8 players
            • U2000 20
            • U1600 28
            • U1000 11

Since the number of players in the 2000+ section is smaller than ideal, I am opening up the section to allow any player that is rated 1800 or higher to enter it. That means that any of the following players who are currently registered in the U2000 section can move to the 2000+ section at no charge:
            • Stuart Brammall
            • Ben Olden-Cooligan
            • Alberto Ranola
            • Shiva Chakkoli
            • Mario Moran-Venegas
            • Vincent Greeson

If you are one of the above listed players and wish to move to the 2000+ section, send an email to me at bclarke1661@rogers.com before 8 p.m. tonight.
