  • Any Chinese Chess tournament in Canada ?

I wonder if there is any Chinese chess tournament in Canada ?

Since this is a Chess forum, I thought this may be related.

Is there a market for Chinese Chess ?

In Montreal - there are often 10-12 tables going in a downtown mall - usually two players and half a dozen kibitzers at every table. The players tend to be Chinese, male. and aged 50 and over. Nothing organized, though.

Here is an outdated link to a Toronto group... http://txa.ca

I've seen something similar in the courtyard outside of the food court at the Chinatown Centre on Spadina in Toronto. Couple of tables of mostly older Chinese men.

        Hi Gary:

IF a Canadian-Chinese Chess Club [C-CCC] (Open to everyone, just like Annex CC or Scarborough CC) were to start up, I would think it would be in Markham, Ontario. The Canadian Chinese are a significant part of the population there, and such a club might be able to find some deep-pocket sponsors there.

Just my speculation - I've heard of no such thing.........yet.......

              Thanks everyone for your comments.

Seems to be the same phenomenon of old people playing chinese chess in chinese living areas. Tried to contact the person in charge per the website but did not get any reply. Probably they tried without much success.

              Doesnt sound good then

If there is a tournament in GTA area, I will definitely join. I always prefer playing in a tournament condition games.

One can play all sorts of chess variants (or even invent one's own) by going to the following linked website and registering for free; games (correspondence by email) are played via the Game Courier feature there, which provides diagrams, clocks and stated rules - including Chinese Chess, Janggi, Shogi, Chess... An online tournament can be organized based around selected chess variants agreed to by the players involved (no cash prizes though):
