  • 2017 Canadian Junior Champion heading to Uruguay and Italy

A fantastic achievement by a Hamiltonian junior in Canada chess.

U-16 boy champion at CYCC ( Saulte Ste Marie ) and CJCC champion at Mississauga this year.

By far one the best achievement in 2017 but probably overshadowed by other events according to others. He is in Uruguay now and heading to Italy later this year. CJCC organizer will provide him an air ticket worth $ 1,500 to Italy and as official player representing Canada will enjoy free accommodation and food at the venue. Go bring back honors for Canada ....

Here is another nice article about Richard Chen. Nice photo of him and the tournament organizer, Mikhail Egorov who happens to be his first coach.

Indeed, these are nice articles about a remarkable person - thanks for posting Gary. I am also glad that the journalists took their assignments seriously and avoided obvious goofs that are so common when mainstream media reports on chess. Congratulations to Mikhail and Richard, you made your communities proud! Bravo to Richard Chen's parents and grandmother!

We've been following Richard's progress at the Montevideo WYCC daily. Good luck in the second half of this tournament, and all the best for the WJCC in Italy!
