Re: Mississauga, ON, qualifier for the CYCC - Feb 24-25, 2018

The annual Canadian Youth Chess Championship (CYCC) is the most prestigious youth chess competition in Canada organized under the auspices of the Chess Federation of Canada (CFC). It is also a pathway to all international youth chess competitions that determines official representatives for the World Youth Chess Championship (WYCC), the Pan American Youth Chess Championship and the North American Youth Chess Championship. In 2018, the CYCC will be held in Quebec City, which gives an excellent opportunity to young players from the Greater Toronto Area to take part. To earn the right to play in the CYCC, one has to qualify in his or her province of residence. To qualify for the CYCC, 50% score is required, as per the national rules.

The Elevate My Chess (EMC) Mississauga Open CYCC qualification tournament is the best chance for children residing in GTA to qualify for the CYCC. This is a FIDE-rated tournament of standard ("slow") chess, the juniors will be able to boost their FIDE and CFC ratings ahead of the CYCC and international competitions.

Trophies or medals for the top 3 in every section. There are Certificates of Qualification for the 2018 CYCC in a corresponding age group. Most importantly, the winner of every section will receive a transportation grant of up to $120 to attend the CYCC in Quebec City, QC, in July 2018. - This is the only CYCC qualification tournament in Canada that offers such generous cash prizes to juniors.

Please note that our tournament is Open, not "Boys'". There are already several girls who registered for the EMC Qualifier rather than the Ontario Girls U-19 Championship. It is their right to exploit better qualification chances among players in their exact age category, and we welcome those girls with open hearts! Whether you are a boy or a girl, register now in one of U-08...U-18 sections!

Players of all ages and abilities have compelling reasons to register and play on February 24-25.

      - If you are a boy or a girl who seeks to play among your age peers, register for the EMC CYCC Qualifier in your proper age category to qualify for the CYCC and establish your FIDE rating.

      - If you are a star player who has already qualified by the CYCC (former champion, personal rights, by rating...), register for the EMC CYCC Qualifier to win a $120 transportation grant (the only tournament in Canada that offers this!) and to boost your FIDE rating.

      - If you are a boy in a U-16 or a U-18 age category, your prize is up for grabs, don't delay, register right away! While there are dozens of pre-registrations in U-08...U-14, the numbers in U-16 and U-18 are still relatively low and those sections could be combined as per the rules. That would be a pity since there will be only one $120 transportation subsidy grant in a combined section, rather than two separate grants in U-16 and U-18. Two prizes are better than one, right?! ;-) Register in U-16 or U-18 now to sustain a viable section and run a great chance to win your separate prize.

The entry fees go up in two days. Register now via a convenient online interface.
