Re: Oakville Winter Open - Feb 2-4, 2018

There will be a final update on the pre-registration list later today with all the updated CFC and FIDE ratings.

Please check the details as to your number of days / byes to be taken / CFC expiry date / section that you will be playing and etc.

I think about half of the players opting for 3 days and the other half 2 days so I am expecting to see about 90-100 players on Friday evening. Be there on time and if you are registering onsite, please be there much earlier. Registration begins at 5PM and ends at 6PM.

    Round 1 begins at 7PM.

We are at 185 players now and hopefully the final figure to reach 200 before round 1 begins.

Weather forecast for the weekend looks good with no snow storm but just light snow on Sunday.

Tomorrow sunny day which is a good start for our tournament.

For participants / players, please come and pick up our complimentary t-shirt and pen for you.

For the 3 days players, I will see you guys this evening. Please don't be late as we will start on time as far as possible - 7PM.

For the 2 days, I will see you guys on Saturday morning 9AM.

We still have about 15 players whose CFC membership are not up to date yet. You will have to pay cash to us for us to pay CFC later. $ 48 for adult and $ 32 for junior

Eagerly awaiting for the tournament to begin.

          Hi Gary:

Will you be updating the website pre-reg'd list today? It is still showing the Jan. 26 update.

I noted you did post a day or two ago that you would be posting a final update (Would like to know who may have been added to our section in this last while).

          Thanks.

For those who have paid ( 99% paid ) and only 1 or 2 not paid yet, you don't have to come earlier. Pairings for you will be made accordingly and clocks will be started on time 7PM tonight

You just need to come and pick up your t shirt and pen

Noticed that most participants have renew their CFC membership which is a nice surprise ( reduce our work load in getting players to pay us the CFC membership ). I am pretty sure Bob Gillanders will say that CFC membership for Feb 1st, 2018 goes up compared to last year or previous month. At least 30-40 renew or new memberships. Good sign for chess in Canada.

Whoever sign up after now - will not be in the list on the website but i will continue to update the list for IA Danny Goldenberg.

                  Keep the registration coming.

                  Cheers

Is Bator out? Or can he try his luck in the 2-day section?

Players who reentered should be shown on the crosstables...e.g. Bator's first round loss does not appear. He should appear as a slightly different name...e.g Sambuev+.

Example: See this crosstable from the U1800 section of the Golden State Open. Two players re-entered (Rachel Li and Mukun Udhayakumar); the "re-entered" results are shown with "*" after the name.

I went to look around and can say that it's pity that I could not play :/

                                Several pictures at https://photos.app.goo.gl/fj04Zr2DE2SB6Lot1

                                Gary (standing) with Nicholas (sitting)

The main hall (in front - Daniel Wiebe and Eugene Hua)

Main hall top boards (Leonid Gerzhoy - Ravi Khanna, with the computer Mikhael Egorov preparing the online translation)

missing - nightly pool party pictures LOL (there is a pool in the open area, and probably will be full of chess players after round 3)
