  • More Bohatyrchuk questions

A recent article on chessbase.com about Dr. Fedor Bohatyrchuk has stimulated much debate and further articles, there and elsewhere.

I have several related questions about him for our highly informed readers!

    1) He and Alexander Alekhine played over 100 games against each other in 1914 in Genoa, Italy, while they were waiting for transportation to return them to Russia, during World War I, following internment at the Mannheim 1914 tournament in Germany. Have any of these games survived? I have never come across any of them; it would be a fascinating discovery. Alekhine wrote a lot about chess, so he may have touched on this episode.

    2) When Dr. Bohatyrchuk settled in Ottawa in 1948, he was in his 56th year, but became one of Canada's strongest players. Is there any record of his involvement in Ottawa-area chess, in terms of local events won, recorded anywhere? His record in major events is well known.

    3) Did he write any chess columns during his Ottawa years? If so, in which newspapers and / or magazines?

    Thanks in advance! :)
