  • 2008 Santa Claus Open got underway in Montreal yesterday...

    with 131 players!

    Things like that don't happen by chance. The dynamic, hard working organizer is Sylvain Millette. He took on this tournament last year and brought the numbers up to 112, which was a vast improvement over the previous year. Sylvain is also responsible for breathing life into the Montreal Chess Club which shares space with the Chess'n Math Association. The club draws over 50 players every Wednesday evening.

    The Santa Claus Open is a 30 year tradition in Montreal, held between between Xmas and New Year's as a 5-round swiss with 1 game per day.

      The attendance was good from 1988 to 2002 included.

      Not much before or after.

      Do you know why 1988-2002 was so good ?
