I don't really like how "grand master" is a little more common now. It's spread out to the point where a gm on the low end has little chance of winning against a gm on the high end. Plus there is the gradual inflation of ratings against titles which are mostly ratings-based.
I liked the old way where you had to really achieve something extremely special to get a GM title, like say make the final 4 of a world championship cycle. Or something.
If it wasn't a problem, there wouldn't have been debate about a possible "super-gm" title...
Now I'll go wait for someone to bash me as some 1700 who knows nothing of high-end chess. But I am a chess fan, also...
