One wonders why the Justice Department would choose this hill to die on. They probably realize that a Trump win will mean that they will be accountable for the excesses of the last few years.

Yeh, you clearly said, "It is not insane," then used DOJ bullshit to rationalize your statement.
I hope the following comment, taken as a generalization, doesn't apply to you:

Apparently that didn't happen and now Virginia has allegedly decided to violate that law and the DOJ has decided to do their job. And that's some kind of conspiracy theory to you, Sid?

Limited range of predictions for 2024 U.S. Presidential race:
1) Democratic Party wins the national popular vote, as it has in all but one election since 1992 inclusive (2004);
2) Democratic vote total national margin will be less than it was in 2020, which was about 7 million;
3) Fewer total ballots cast than in 2020 (that was more than 158 million, an all-time record);
4) Winning candidate earns fewer total votes than Joe Biden did in 2020 (more than 81 million, an all-time record);
5) Total minor party voting totals (those other than Democratic and Republican) will eclipse the candidate's winning margin in at least one of the 51 electoral college regions (50 states plus District of Columbia), with the most likely being Michigan and Wisconsin;
6) Losing major party candidate will poll fewer votes than Donald Trump did in 2020 (more than 74 million, also an all-time record for a losing candidate).
