    Constructive criticism:

You should have made the King a 3D solid of transparent glass, refracting the letters behind it. The way you have it now, it could be reading "Ontario Open 2057".

Also, no indication that Ontario is the province of Ontario in Canada, and not the town / city of Ontario California. There's lots of symbols you can draw on to add the Canada connection. Very surprising you wouldn't think of that, with all your talk about CANADIAN chess.

The last thing you want to do with a logo is allow for any confusion or misinterpretation of the brand or the message.

Remind me again Paul Bonham ...about the power of the King.

The simplest things are the hardest things to see.

      Thx for the comment.

Re: The Unofficial Official Ontario Open 2017 logo/branding

When Kitchener chose golf-style shirts for a Kitchener chess festival and/or Canadian open in 2005, the embroidery involved something like "<2005>" (emphasis added as a date), followed by a logo and "Kitchener chess festival" (or similar) on a grey knit golf-shirt (I think white or black were also choices, as well as in t-shirt form).

Perhaps not including time-sensitive information (ie a date, if you choose to sell them again in future years if you order too many in bulk..) is the way to go for a tournament continuing series for another year at your club.

Perhaps doing team colours (red knits on white logos for a Canadian open; maybe Ontario flag colours / emblems for an Ont event for regular guests, reversing a colour scheme for important titled guests (IMs, woman FIDE masters, etc; or maybe black and white stripes for organizers...)) is a way to go. Kitchener used neck badges back then to indicate their arbiters and organizers, but if you instead choose shirts as a replacement for easier identification, then perhaps even better is to keep a place / date - specific info off such a shirt style.

          Thanks for the comment, Kai.

There is a second element to be added to this composition that I guess I'll talk about here, that will 'place' the event.

The second element is the complete listing of the tournament's participants!
