Cant find continuation of previous thread so starting here with comments on round 4.
Fab Fabi loses to knight vs passed rook pawn endgame trick. Perhaps should pay more attention to Karsten Muellers endgame tips.

Awonder Liang has drawn the top 3, So, Caruana, and Nakamura? Does it get better? Impressive.

At this point (round 5) looks like anyone of the participants can win the US Championships. Very competitive field.

                Re: US Championships 2018

Sam Shankland leading the US championship at the half!? He must be feeling he's waking up from his best dream ever. Actually GM Akobian is also tied for first.
And just so no one in the US chess community thinks the world is ending the big three are represented by Wesley So, also tied for first (all at +2).

Wheres Fab Fabi? He's half a point back and slowly recovering. And Hikaru Nakamura? He's one point back and probably playing mega bullet sessions to fine tune his winning skills again.

Alex Onischuk is in last place. And that means trouble. Alex is a fighter and wont remain there long. Nobody's playing badly and thats good for a great fighting tournament!. Rest day today folks so go out and enjoy the sunshine.

In the diagram above (posted by Wayne - I just noticed) Shankland Caruana after Black's 39th, one could ask why not 40.Rxa4 (looks like natural move)?
Probably 40...h5 setting up Ne2+ and Nf4 and bad things happen to White's kingside. Is it playable? I think Shankland did not want to risk it.

Actually in round 6 nerves played a huge role especially with GM Akobian and GM Robson missing key moves. Sam Shankland had a huge effort and win as Black against GM Akobain and is trailed by Fab Fabi by half a point after his win against GM Robson.

Apparently Sam Shankland trashed himself after his win. His words were "both sides didnt deserve to win".
