And here I was hoping for a nice quiet summer.

Does Nigel Short have a web page or other means of contact where people can send words of support, $ contributions and/or suggestions?

He has two Facebook pages - a "public" one (you just need to "like" it to see the posts), and a "private" one (you have to be "friends").

I really don't see how GM Short can be a serious candidate. Previous public remarks of his have been widely seen as very misogynistic. And those aren't the only remarks that put his candidacy in doubt. I think there is thread here on ChessTalk about them.

But perhaps he makes sense as a kind of attack dog for Georgios Makropoulos; you know, saying incendiary things that Makropoulos can't or won't say because they may discredit him.

I see him as "Bad Cop" in "Bon Cop, Bad Cop" where Georgios Makropoulos plays the "Bon Cop". And Kirsan has been depicted as a cartoon villain for a very long time, so why not treat him as a suspect in a cop movie? That's the intellectual level that much of the MSM is at anyway.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Added later: Makropoulos takes the view that Short is a candidate that will help Ilyumzhinov. See his letter to Canadian GM Kevin Spraggett (on another thread).

Nigel Short – (May 17) - It is amusing to see Mr Kirsan-Continuity (a.k.a Makro) doing things he has never done before - like providing his electoral analysis to soft-porn sites, and now joining twitter. It strongly suggests that, despite all the cocky bluster, he is far from sure about the outcome.

              __________

Soft porn sites? Of whom (spraggett) could he (spraggett) be talking (spraggett)?
