Wesley So loses in rapids for the first time. Kramnik is in this tournament and Giri is out. Anand-Kramnik play criticized by the chessbomb kibitzers. I am starting to worry about the Caruana-Carlsen world match. I hope Fabiano can get some good training in before November.

              Interview with Vishy Anand

Everyone came here from Leuven. You guys actually missed the train?

[Anand] - We thought it was a half-hour ride to Brussels Midi and we had a decent cushion and actually it took us just under an hour to reach and the cushion was five or ten minutes.

And, we somehow seemed to stop at every red light along the way and weren’t going very fast on the highway.

So, we arrived at the station and ran as fast as we could to our train. And I pressed the button at the door and a woman shouted that we were too late and we missed it by 30 seconds.

It was a train, where you had to reserve seats in advance. We paid a surcharge to move to the next train and the surcharge was for standing – so not a brilliant trip.

My wife asked me what they must have been thinking to put seven chess players in charge of their own trip?', which I thought was a nice touch!

Peter Doggers summed up the action in one sentence today:

“Hikaru Nakamura won the $37,500 first prize at the Paris Grand Chess Tour after a dramatic day with more blunders than ever. Sergey Karjakin collapsed a few rounds before the end, while Wesley So drew too many games to play a big role today.”

Sergey lost two games to Anand and MVL. Hikaru won three games against Anand, Kramnik and Mamedyarov and had also won the tournament as he played Caruana in the final round, when Karjakin made a quick draw with Mamedyarov. Only Hikaru didn’t know that and he didn’t even have time to glance up and see how Sergey’s game was going. In fact, he appeared to be lost but played on, Fabiano ran out of steam and Hikaru won that last game and was told that he also had first prize.
                    • Sam, Fab, Wes and Naka. That's an amazing year for USA talents. Keep it up! Still the Olympiad will be tough to win, comme d'habitude
