    What an event!

    The London Chess Classic

    .

The London Chess Classic 2009 will be the highest level tournament in London for 25 years and will be the first in a series of events designed to increase enthusiasm for chess in the UK and promote the game and its undoubted educational benefits in schools and communities. It is also our objective to bring the world championship to London in the Olympic year 2012.

Awesome indeed! I can't stand it. I'm going to check it out. I'll be there for round 3 onward if all goes pro forma.

The tournament poses quite the rating risk for Carlsen. The drama will be delicious!

Being the chess strongest event in 25 years for Britain, I am curious as to how they $ucceeded this time - it may have something to do with their desire to host the World Chess Championship in 2012, quasi conjunctive with the Olympic games.

It is the "highest level tournament". Otherwise you would devalue these dramatic chess events in London:
        1986 Kasparov - Karpov
1993 Kasparov - Short (this might be not the best but one of the dramatical events in a political sense)
2000 Kasparov - Kramnik (Berlin Wall in London :)

        *-*-*

I hope Kramnik willl show his power as a London ruler :D

            The first round pairings:

            M. Carlsen - V. Kramnik (Tal memorial reloaded)
            L. McShane - N. Short
            D. Howell - M. Adams
            H. Nakamura - Ni Hua

In Round 4: Carlsen - Nakamura
The last (7) round: Nakamura - Kramnik.

            ---

I think Kramnik will extend his winning series in serious tournaments crushing everybody here :D
