Re: Strongest Chess Playing Married Couple?
It should be noted Kevin tied for first place on points and finished 3rd on tie break. Very nice result.

Kevin's not lucky. He's good. Luck tends to even out over time.Originally posted by Jack Maguire View PostThe #6 couple on that "5,000 Club" list, Martosz and Monika Socko, from Poland, are both playing in the Lisbon Christmas 2014, as is Kevin Spraggett. All 3 have plus scores through 5 rounds, Martosz plus 3 (3 wins and 2 draws), Kevin plus 2 (2 wins and 3 draws), and Monika plus 1 (3 wins and 2 losses). Kevin was certainly a tad 'lucky' to escape with a draw today (:
If we're talking about couples now, there is (or maybe it's was, I don't know) Igor Rausis and Olita Rause. She is one of the strongest correspondence chess players in the world. I'm not referring to female competitions but overall.

I believe they are now, Bob, but they were only #3 on this list of 22 couples in the "5,000 Club" 5 years ago. Of course, Grischuk has been soaring to new heights while Ivanchuk and Shirov have both been slip-sliding away ):Originally posted by Bob Armstrong View PostThe strongest couple I know of (they are married) is Alexander Grischuk

I don't recall the opening or colours and I can't find the score sheet. It will probably show up when I'm looking for something else.
I have hundreds of score sheets around, mostly CC. I used to play 40 to 50 games at a time. Always a recipe for hanging a piece.

LOL - I might have to dig myself... wonder if you played the French?Originally posted by Gary Ruben View PostThere were a lot of us on chesstalk who played in that. For my part, it seems Kerry was the only one I was paired against. I probably still have the score sheet around somewhere.
It is actually quite possible I might have played the French! (I was fond of it then...)
From the cross table I cannot tell which colour I had for our game. I cannot recall what
colour I had against Vranesic but I seem to imagine it was white.

Re: Strongest Chess Playing Siblings?
The October 1966 issue of "Canadian Chess Chat" has the "1st Revision to the 13th Rating List - October 1st, 1966". The Canadian Open is listed as one of the rated events, but Bob's name doesn't appear. Not enough rated games, maybe?
Not on the 2nd revision (Jan. 1, 1967) either. Nor on the 3rd revision (April 1, 1967), nor in the annual booklet (July 1, 1967). Not on the 1st or 3rd revisions (1968 - no 2nd revision in Chess Chat).
On the 3rd 1968-69 revision (April 1, 1969), Armstrong, R from Sarnia had a rating of 1736. 1770 on the Oct. 1, 1969 revision.
