  • Announcing the 1st Annual Summer Chess Fest July 20-21, 2009 Victoria, B.C. Canada

    The 1st Annual Summer Chess Fest will start immediately before and overlap the start of the Canadian Youth Chess Championships. Over 1000 people of all ages are expected at the Summer Chess Fest. The Summer Chess Fest will take place in Confederation Park and in front of the Royal BC Museum. Events include blindfold chess, bullet, outdoor chess games, demos, twilight blitz, lectures, learn to play chess, treasure hunts, and a drawing contest.     The Summer Chess Fest events are outdoors and will be free entry. Some events may be invitational or limited entry. Spectators are welcome and encouraged at all events. Thank you to the City of Victoria and the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia for their support toward making the Summer Chess Fest a success.

    Other Festivals will be taking place before and after the CYCC. The Moss Street Paint In and Luminara are must see events for residents and tourists alike.

    Art Gallery of Greater Victoria Moss Street Paint In (July 18)
    Location(s): 1040 Moss Street and Moss Street from Fort Street to Dallas Road
    This popular free annual community event showcases the talents of Victoria's artists and the techniques that they employ. Up to 100 artists line the boulevards of Moss Street from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. The Food and Beverage Garden, featuring entertainment and dancing, is open until 9:00 p.m. in the Art Gallery Parking Lot, 1040 Moss Street.

    Summer Chess Festival (July 20 - 21)

    Community lantern festival featuring beautiful lantern displays, live music and performance. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lantern and be part of the magic!
