    Vassily Ivanchuk and the Hedgehog

In 1991 Ivanchuk played a Candidates’ match in
Riga against Leonid Yudasin. The games can be found at

    http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chess...183&pid2=21620

    He won the match 4.5-0.5.

He recently (Friday, 31 January, 2014) gave a Master Class on the match at the Gibraltar Chess Congress with Stuart Conquest in the chair with him. The video lasts 1 hr 40 minutes and can be found at

    http://www.gibraltarchesscongress.co...asterclass.htm

The hedgehog of the title comes from Yudasin’s preference for that formation.

Stuart Conquest bears a strong resemblance to television’s Frasier Crane.

Vassily answers questions from the audience at the end.

[Among them - Did you play Geller? Did you play Bent Larsen? Do you remember all the moves in all the games of your career? Is there any one player whom you always have difficulties playing? Do you have any memories of Vugar Gashimov? Isn’t the result of a draughts/checkers game with best play a draw? Have you played GO or Shogi? Have you played bridge? What books are you reading now? Are you going to write your autobiography?]
