We should have passed that NFP hurdle by then (crossing fingers). On the proposed motion we will worry about it when it is presented. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Re: Who is scared of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov?
Thank you for your post! There is no need to make any motions now, Governors had this power for all these years and it was their right to exersise it at any time, or agree to have a President or FIDE representative to vote on the FIDE's matters. What I'm against is that this Power is taken for granted by the present President, disregarding the objections of certain Governors. Furthermore, apparently he ignores the wishes of the majority of CFC Members spelled out in his own poll making a joke out of CFC by turning away a generous sponsor, not supporting a bid by someone whose name is a part of our civilization for centuries to come, and as he says he's doing it in the interests of Canadian chess! I understand that many people disagree with the present situation but keep quiet because there is no alternative. Is it correct?Originally posted by Garland Best View PostI've spoken to several long-time governors and read through several years of governor's letters, and AFAIK, the Governors have never voted on who we should vote for FIDE President. The records go back to 1997, so that's 17 years of precedence. If anyone can find records showing the Governors voting on such matters I will be the first to say I was mistaken.
If indeed you are going to become a Governor come this summer, then by all means put forward a motion to change the status quo. I'll even second it for you. However in all likelyhood, these motions would likely be tabled until after the NFP application is passed. Meanwhile I can report that I have not see a groundswell of Governors demanding changes to how the decision gets made.Last edited by Sasha Starr; Wednesday, 14th May, 2014, 11:58 PM.

I think the CFC was incorporated around 1975 so that would be the starting point. A new legal entity was created at that point.Originally posted by Gary Ruben View PostI gave my copy of the handbook, foundation sheets and that sort of thing to a collector. Not only do they want to engineer a coup but they want me to take them by the hand and show them how to do it.

You offer nothing constructive and want everyone to do YOUR homework for hypothetical scenarios and questions. Back under the bridge.

Re: Who is scared of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov?
If the Kasparov supporters try to rewrite the CFC constitution between meetings, in my books that is cheating. You are not relevant to the discussion until you are confirmed as a governor or voting member at the AGM so by definition you are not even capable of cheating in this situation since you are largely irrelevent until June 28th. Only upcoming Assembly of Governors could delerate its Power to anybody, so if the present Assembly has not delegated its Power (in writing, of course) to you or the directors your and/or directors' vote is illegal at the best. Re: Who is scared of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov?
Your best guess... when the CFC constitution was created... or alternatively... there is nothing in writing... is anybody prepared to step forward to confirm that at some point (when?) there was a delegation of Power to the President or directors or anybody else for that matter and each incoming Assembly of Governors was doing it every year over and over again? In the absense of that all your due dilligence plus 75 cents will buy you a coup of coffee...Originally posted by Vlad Drkulec View PostMy best guess would be back when the CFC constitution was created or alternatively when the FIDE representative position was created. I wasn`t involved in chess politics back then so you will need to consult someone who was. You should also consult FIDE regulations and history if you really want to get to the root of this.Last edited by Sasha Starr; Wednesday, 14th May, 2014, 10:17 PM.
