I thank you for your encouragement. I like experimenting with tournaments as my associate, Mr. Gillanders has also voiced. You never know what can be done better, give better results, leave a better experience for the majority of the chess players and/or organizers until you try. I see a lot of talk of how things can be made better. I have also seen a lot of people not willing to risk anything to find out if it is true. I havent lost my shirt yet on these tournaments yet so I can afford to keep trying/experimenting. Fortune favours the brave. Play well.

Great location for Campbellville tournament, right beside the HWY 401, from GTA, Hamilton, Burlington, Brantford, Guelph, Kitchener, Straford etc...all within 100KM, covered more than half of the Ontario population. Wish more players to join, and more success than last year!

Come on Bob, we did not see player(s) support new idea, but you did see player did not like the idea, why not even consider to change it? Or change to 90+30 for Sunday games? Or change 90+30 for Open sections only, similar to Hart House or Ontario Open that gave different TC for Open and non Open sections if they really want more time for food.

Mark, I did explain the reason.Originally posted by Mark Kamenskiy View PostWhy keep changing without reason?
Besides, where would we be if we didn't explore new ideas?
"But that's the way we have always done it" is not sufficient reason not to try and improve things. Yes, not all "serious" players will like it, but I'm betting most players will welcome the change. Maybe, not all right away, but eventually. It will mean more rounds will start on time. Many players already take a bye simply to avoid 3 games in a day. Maybe they will be more willing to play all 3 if their games start on time and they have a little more time for food.
Embrace the change!

Re: Campbellville open chess tournament nov 29th and 30th
No, not everyone happy with 90+10, I heard from several serious players about the concern of 90+10, Guelph and Aurora are all 5 games with 90+30, players enjoyed their tournaments very much. Last year, Campbellvie Open was very successful, thank you Bob and Garvin. It was also 90+30 too. Why keep changing without reason? If you have concern about 3 games in Sat, then you can consider a bit short for the 1st game ( I believe some tournaments went that way), no reason to put all 5 games as 90+10. Players come to play and enjoy games, not for 10 or 15 minutes earlier going home, instead, they hope they can have proper time to think about their moves.

Re: Campbellville open chess tournament nov 29th and 30th
We changed it to 90+10 to help boost registration. Saturday is 3 games, and if rounds are delayed because of long endgames played on the increment, well, "why should a hundred people have to wait for just 2?"Originally posted by Mark Kamenskiy View PostCan you make time control as 90+30 instead of 90+10? That may boost players to register.
With only a 10 second increment, we have a better chance to stay on schedule and keep everyone happy.
