  • No "Zero tolerance rule" anymore?

During the technical (captains) meeting before the start of U-16 Olympiad a person from FIDE announced that FIDE doesn't force anymore "Zero tolerance" rule. He told that from now FIDE allows organizers to decide about this rule. This announcement was a big surprise for the organizers and they asked the opinion of Team captains. Sure, the huge majority of captains was against this rule. Needless to say, both Canadian captains (GM G.Sabo and myself) voted against "Zero tolerance" rule.

Organizers decided to change this rule to 15-min rule. In my opinion, any number between 10 and 30 minutes is OK.

As far as I understand, FIDE hoped that this rule could increase chances for chess to be included in Winter (or Summer) Olympiad. Now, after IOC decided against it, FIDE sees no reason to continue with this rule.
