  • Cascla (K'=|K=) or (<<'=|<<=): Shirov vs Nickoloff, North Bay International 1994

Cascla (K'=|K=) or (<<'=|<<=): White castles first on the Kingside, Black also castles Kingside, the game is drawn.

At the time of this game, Latvian GM Alexey Shirov had a FIDE rating of 2740, and was looking like a future world title challenger. IM Bryon Nickoloff had the chance to defend one of his favorite lines, the Black side of the Archangelsk Spanish, with which he was justifiably regarded as one of the world's most knowledgeable players. The result is an exceptionally interesting draw. :)
