On the CFC site: ''The CMA Chess Challenge, which qualifies players to a one day provincial championship, charges $4-$5 to its organizers. I believe Fred's proposal is more than reasonable.''

    Actually this is incorrect.

The Ontario Chess Challenge and the Quebec Chess Challenge, which are organized by the Chess'n Math Association, charge organisers of regional events $3 per player (which includes taxes) up to a maximum of $600...for the privilege of qualifying youngsters to the Provincial Championship which is a 1-day event. Entry fee for a youngster at the Provincial level is between $50 and $70. At the Provincials, we qualify 1 player per grade (from grade 1-12). These provincial champions have their airfare and accomodation ( 3 nights ) paid for by the CMA where they participate against other provincial champions at the CANADIAN CHESS CHALLENGE....where entry is limited to Provincial Grade champions from each of the 10 provinces ONLY, and there is NO entry fee.

In 2018, the event will be held in St. John's, Newfoundland. I don't know what the cost will be...but calculate 12 players from Quebec plus a Team Captain...and the same for Ontario...26 people times...we are probably looking at about $20,000.
