Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:

* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party

Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.

14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.

I would begin & end by stressing, in polite civilized forceful terms, how upset (as in really really pissed off) we are as a chess federation, as chess players in Canada and as a civilized citizens of the world.
I would NOT begin by thanking Makropoulos, I would NOT begin by kissing Makropoulus's FIDE ass, I would NOT begin by appaulding Azmaiparashvili.
To repeat, I would begin by stressing how pissed off we are as a chess federation, as chess players in Canada and go to some length of that condition! Including a mini lecture on how WE treat each other and expect others to treat us!! It's us, you, me, Anton, everyone here in Canada, Anton's home crew, that comes first in this 'Open Letter'. Not Makropoulos and certainly not Azmaiparashvili.
From there Mav I would maintain the tension by keeping letter on a knife's edge staying focused on how Anton was so brutally treated and list a few bullet points of reparations we expect to be forthcoming.
And end the letter, with respect.
Start on point, stay on point, end on point ...to mention anything else only dilutes/diminishes the significance of our position.

Personally, what i would like to see as "the right thing" would be as follows:
1) Anton being paid in full for winning the first 2 rounds.
2) ZA being prevented from being in the same building as where the Olympiad is being held while it is taking place.
Don't be so sure. All options are on the table. At this point, I still hope that FIDE will do the right thing.
I'm curious about the definition of "the right thing" ... any sort of apology from Z.A. would strike me as completely fabricated and therefore worthless. I actually assume FIDE would pony up Anton's prize money - that is almost a no brainer (but of course we ARE dealing with FIDE). I actually cannot imagine what FIDE could do to make any aspect of this 'right'. I guess we will have to see if they actually DO anything at all except exchange letters...

Agreed. The conspiracy theory smacks of the same desperation as seen in the verbose (with shades of puerility) open letter to dear Mr. Makropoulos.

What is it about this that makes my suggestion a "conspiracy theory"?
Anand, or someone who knows him, might have mentioned it to ZA after Anand was knocked out. After that, ZA sprang into action. Cause and effect; not conspiracy.
If someone was claiming that the Federation of Anton's next opponent had secretly induced ZA to upset Anton just before his round 3.1 game\ and ZA and that Federation were continuing to conceal the fact.... that would be a conspiracy.
I think this letter by our CFC President to FIDE is quite good. Thanks for the important effort on this; it really is significant to have this resolved to the best interests of our Canadian representative, as soon as possible, and for FIDE to learn necessary lessons.
A few constructive suggestions:
a) Referring to 'Mr. Kovalyov': He should be referred to throughout as 'Grandmaster Kovalyov', his international chess title;
b) Pointing out that Anton had worn either the same or similar shorts in previous rounds of the 2017 World Cup, without incident, would have strengthened the argument.

Originally this was drafted as a response to the response to Hal. FIDE is well aware of who Hal Bond is.

It will find its way into the ethics committee complaint. The executive is going over the final draft of the complaint from the ad hoc committee struck for this purpose. We have to incorporate some of the suggestions that were made by VP Ken Craft.
e) Pointing out that the FIDE World Cup 2017 is a flagship event, with many of the world's top players, would have been good. Also, Anton traveled halfway around the world to get to Tbilisi to compete; this would have been a nice addition to the argument;
f) Pointing out the negative media coverage this brought upon FIDE, thereby damaging its reputation, and the positive image of the event, would have been strong.
I will hope for a positive result for Anton here, including monetary compensation from FIDE.
It is worth noting that Mr. Bishop (not a chess guy!) resigned, under pressure, as president of the Professional Golfers Association of America, over an inappropriate, insulting tweet, concerning English golfer Ian Poulter. Bishop referred to Poulter as a 'little girl'. This took place away from the competitive setting, however. Here, the GM organizer at fault directly affected, in an exceptionally negative way, the competitive mindset and attention of our Canadian representative.

The perfect is the enemy of the good. I thought it was important to get this on the record while everyone was still paying attention. I also wanted to keep it under two pages even with the fairly large picture of ZA in his shorts. I have gotten positive feedback from the people who have commented on it.
