  • New book 'A to Z Chess Tactics', by George Huczek, is very good!

I bought the 2017 book 'A to Z Chess Tactics', by Canadian author George Huczek. I am impressed, and have learned from it already. :)

This is a Batsford publication, very well organized, with short chapters, in alphabetical order, on each tactical aspect, followed by over 300 examples, with solutions.

Huczek, a Senior Candidate Master with CCCA, former CFC Governor, and retired science teacher, uses everything from complete games to game positions to composed problems to hypothetical situations to illustrate his ideas, and the work is very well explained.

I hadn't seen most of the examples before; some exceptional classics, such as Averbakh vs Kotov, Zurich 1953, are used in most books of this type; that one never gets old!

Since players of all standards always need to practice their tactics, I see this book as being useful for everyone from beginner to grandmaster.

There are several detailed reviews of the book available online.
