FIDE President’s Statement on the 2020 World Chess Championship Match

    Friday, 8 March 2019

In response to the numerous questions from potential organizers of the WCCM, FIDE would like to state the following:

    1. The WCCM regulations are currently being developed. They allow to hold the match in multiple cities if this promotes chess and does not present excessive logistical problems for the WCCM participants.

    2. The recommended WCCM prize fund will be at least 2 million Euros.

    3. The winning bid will be selected on a competitive basis according to a transparent procedure that will involve a reliable auditing company.

Big news today as four cities have contacted the Norwegian Chess Federation saying they want to host the 2020 World Championship Match: Oslo, Stavanger, Kragerø and Bærum. Stavanger have local support and wants to host it in the concert hall, used for #NorwayChess before.

Two replies of interest to this tweet:

Jamie Bullen – Gotta think who the challenger is. Much more $s if American

Qindarka - It's a bit of a pity that the venue will be decided before the Candidates is over. I know it's to give time to prepare but it seems that bigger sponsors might come in if they already know that their preferred player is in the title match. Of course, it doesn't matter for Norway.
