  • creative chess during these times

I sent my ex student Robert an email saying: I had a wonderful thought. As part of these times of separation and our joint skills as wordsmiths, in music, and as chessplayers how about a game to remember these times. Description is a big part of what it is all about but its also a thinking game of creative moves. We could add rhymes, sonnets, songs, puns, limericks, tunes or anything that catches our fancy to the moves. (Quotes from the Bard or Wordsworth or Longfellow would also be good)

I'll lead with: 1. On Good Friday in the year of coronavirus the humble pawn of the pure white king ventures forward two squares.
Its your turn and much pleasant thinking. I humbly request your reply soon.
The response was: From the shore of which is gloomy,
A mounted warrior, son of Nokimis, daughter of the Westwind,
    leaps to C the enemy.

2.The king's right hand man, the white knight, senses dark currents arising and leaps toward the center (f3)
Response: The vizier of the Eldritch king's spawn is one step ahead of him in defense of their realm.

    3. The lily white queen's quixote dances forward to join his brother.

I look upon the pawn as the heart at the start when battlelines are drawn.

Daring ideas are like chessmen moving forward. They may be beaten but they may start a winning game. (Goethe)

and on we go with our game.
