Well...the most successful annual weekend chess tournament in Canada...is happening in a few weeks.
You are probably asking yourself...Huh, which event is that?
A tournament that regularly draws over 250 players...offers reasonable entry fees, very reasonable on-site accomodation...and gives class prizes of $1,000 first in each section!
And you say...how come I have never heard about this event? Ummm...well...The Mauricie Open (Mauricie is a region in Quebec...about half way between Montreal and Quebec City).
Prize Fund: $12,000 (based on 255 players)

Format: 5 round swiss - FQE rated
Time Control : 30/1h15 + 40 min/mate with incrementation of 30 sec/per move or analog equivalent.
Schedule : Friday March 19 - 4 pm - 7 pm - Last minute registration / round 1 7:30 pm; Saturday March 20 - round 2 10 am / round 3 4 pm; Sunday March 21 - round 4 10 am / round 5 4 pm

Open Section: : 1 000 $, 500, 250, 200 (-2300), 200 et 125 (-2200), 200 et 125 (-2100)
Section A (- 2000) : 1 000$, 500, 250, 125 (-1900) Bring Your clock
Section B (-1800) : 1 000$, 500, 250, 125 (-1700) Bring Your clock
Section C (-1600) : 1 000$, 500, 250, 125 (-1500) Bring Your clock
Section D (-1400) : 1 000$, 500, 250, 125 (-1300) Bring Your clock
Section E (-1200 and unrated) : 700$, 350, 150, 100 (-1100), 75 (-1000) / Unrated* -150$, 2 FQE Cards.
Door Prize: $50 in each section. $50 prize to all players scoring 4 points and not having won a prize.
Membership: Players who are not FQE members must buy a tournament pass - $15
