  • RA Spring Open: onsite registrations tomorrow

Hi there, first of all, an important note for local chess players who have not yet registered/paid: please note that I am working tonight, and so I will not be dropping by the RA chess club to take registrations/payments. Unless you use super-Fed-Ex or something like that, the only way to register now is to email me as soon as feasible, and then arrive onsite Friday evening, before 630pm or so. Payments now need to be in cash, and pairings will be done by 645pm.

Since my last post, some players (2 of them quite high rated) had to drop out, but some new ones are joining. We are at 62 players so far, with a few more Amateurs than last time, so the prize fund is tracking a little behind last time ($2800 at the RA Winter Open). However, there are always some players who register and pay onsite at the last moment, and we are already at almost $2100 anyway. Just over 24 hours from now, we will see if we matched last time!

Finally, please note that I do the pairings for Round 2 before I leave the site after Round 1. In other words, (unless you have already registered and paid and asked for a bye in Round 1), I need all payments early tomorrow evening. After Round 1 is underway, and I have prepped all the pairing cards, ranked by rating, etc., then that will effectively close registrations for the tournament. Therefore, if you were planning on registering onsite on Saturday, that will not work out, so please get someone else to pay for you before 8pm or so on Friday evening. I will not have any email connectivity after 4pm tomorrow!

OK, that takes care of all the caveats I can think of, LOL! Ottawa weather is supposed to warm up this weekend, and it has been beautifully sunny for days!

See you tomorrow evening chess friends!

    Yours in chess,

    Aris Marghetis
    - Organizer/TD, FIDE Arbiter
    - EOCA President, CFC Governor

Please note that we are looking for up to 4 floater players :
    - floater players help the TD guarantee no “forced byes”
    - floater players are paired and rated like all the players
    - floater players play for free, but under some conditions :
----- they play in 0 to 5 rounds, depending on byes by all the players
----- they can be phoned/texted in the hour before every single round
----- they have a current CFC membership by the time of first pairings
if you are interested in being a floater player for this event, please apply by email
