  • Eastern Ontario Open: $30 discount ending

Hi chess fans, please note that the $30 triple-early discount for registering and paying in March is about to end. To take advantage of it, you would need to have a March postmark. In other words, to be on the safe side, you should mail it externally BEFORE March 31st. That should do it. If you cannot mail it by then, please note that April is the month for the $20 double-early discount (and May is the month for the $10 early discount). To be fair to the dozens of players who have already paid up, I will be staying true to these postmark cutoffs. As I will not be attending the RA Chess Club until May, the only way to register/pay in late March, and all of April, will be via mail. If you do not use cheques, then if I may suggest, just get a postal money order at the post office.

The early registration list below already includes 40 players, and I know of 2 groups (from UofT & Quebec) that probably have also mailed in their group registrations. That's a pretty good start, with the prize fund tracking ahead of our last Ottawa EOCA event. If you have any questions, please feel free! :)

N.B. As this event occurs after the end of the University school year, travelling players can get great deals to stay in the residences of Carleton University, which is a convenient walking distance from the playing site. It is not right next door, but close enough, and includes free breakfasts! :)

    Yours in chess,

    Aris Marghetis, FIDE Arbiter
    Organizer/TD, EOCA President

Please note that we are looking for up to 4 floater players :
    - floater players help the TD guarantee no “forced byes”
    - floater players are paired and rated like all the players
    - floater players play for free, but under some conditions :
----- they play in 0 to 5 rounds, depending on byes by all the players
----- they can be phoned/texted in the hour before every single round
----- they have a current CFC membership by the time of first pairings
if you are interested in being a floater player for this event, please apply by email
