  • Kitchener 25' + 10" City Hall Saturday Active

    Hello folks,

TD / Organizer Ed Thompson hosted a 5-round Active this past Saturday (25 minutes / player + 10 seconds / move) at Kitchener city hall between 9:30 am & 6 pm.

Michael Dougherty ( http://www.chess.ca/memberinfo.asp?CFCN=100294 ) faced Kitchener's local Shawn Phillips ( http://www.chess.ca/memberinfo.asp?CFCN=137068 ) earlier on in the AM hours in a so-called Sicilian Dragondorf idea that had lately been discussed locally at the club by others such as Gord Olheiser ( http://www.chess.ca/memberinfo.asp?CFCN=101400 ) & Mahmud Hassain ( http://www.chess.ca/memberinfo.asp?CFCN=111177 ). Missing part of the first couple of rounds, the analytical report later was that Shawn's upset win was partially related to some sort of opening novelty trap, & he later came out on an even score.

Michael later fought back to tie up with Hans Jung & another for a share of 1st-3rd (perhaps the 3rd was David Filipovich http://www.chess.ca/memberinfo.asp?CFCN=103521 or Steve Demmery http://www.chess.ca/memberinfo.asp?CFCN=109477 ?!) as Hans ceded a draw in the final game debate of round 5.

Perhaps others could fill in parts of the remaining report with their stories. A couple of gamesheets were submitted or left at the Organizer's table.
