  • The Match of the Century

A Toronto area artist named Blandford Gates has put together a performance piece / art event that re-enacts game 5 of Fischer and Spassky's epic 1972 match for the World Chess Championship. The art show is sort chess/art mash-up.

The chess pieces are sculptured out of recycled stuff -- old pulleys, machine parts, various bits and pieces, etc. The king is 3 feet tall and is pretty hefty. The chess board squares are 2' X 2'.

The re-enactment is being staged on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and is happening in the Warkworth Town Hall in beautiful Warkworth, Ontario (see map below). It's free and open to all. Should be fun.
