    Al Gore commented that if Barack Obama had arrived in Denver a few days earlier his debate performance against Mitt Romney would have been better because he would have more time to adjust to the altitude.

    Bent Larsen also mentioned that Denver altitude as one of the main reasons for his 0-6 performance against Bobby Fischer in 1971. Larsen claimed that the Denver altitude greatly reduced his concentration during the match. Mark Taimanov and Tigran Petrosian were not able to use the same excuse.
