Before 2015, I was completely ignorant of US politics. I first got interested in 2015 when Bernie did his "morning in America" campaign ad.
I thought it was very upbeat, positive, and I looked him up wanting to know more.
Then Trump did his famous trip down the escalator. I had heard of him, but instantly thought he was an arrogant ass.
I did some research, and it only reinforced my initial impression.
My assessment of Trump at the time was the same as yours. However, most politicians tend to be arrogant. Some just hide it better than others.

I posted some Bernie Sanders clips on chesstalk back in 2015. I received a mostly hostile response and labelled a communist by some.
Oh well, what did I expect. LOL

It is now 9 years later, Trump has destroyed the old Republican party, Biden has destroyed the old Democratic party, and everyone is bracing themselves for a second Trump administration.

I wonder if anyone's attitude towards Bernie has changed.
Bernie is now too old to be a factor. He is a very rich communist.

It is called a recess appointment. He can get his whole team in place without Senate approval for 2 years.

Sounds like an abuse of power to me.
He needs both the house and the senate to go into recess. If they go into recess they can't be passing any of the measures which he wants to implement. Trump will likely get all of his appointments with perhaps three exceptions: Pete Hegseth, Robert Kennedy Junior and perhaps Tulsi Gabbard though that is also uncertain. The Democrats will vote against the latter two as they are seen as turncoats. Democrats who are coming up for reelection in two years may abstain as Trump will definitely campaign for their opponents in two years.

He doesn't need to use recess appointments for the entire cabinet. Recess appointments tend to be used when the president does not have control of the Senate. Obama tried to make recess appointments when the Congress was not in recess. Eventually it reached the Supreme Court and it was not allowed.

The problem is that Republicans tend to be nice and let the democrat presidents have their cabinet aside from one or two ridiculous radicals. The Democrats always vote as a block.

Trudeau spoke by phone with Trump today - promise - 1. will be tougher of border security; 2. will be tougher on stopping fentanyl for entering USA (The two demands Trump made when saying he'll impose 25% tariff on all goods from Canada (& Mexico) going into the USA.

Is Trudeau looking more Prime Ministerial? Is this good to raise the Liberals from the depths?

The Republicans did not use their research. The Democrats did even after it was clear that there was no truth to it. All the lawfare likely caused Trump's victory. That and nominating a brain dead person or two for president. At least Hillary was smart in a Dr. Evil kind of way.

Trump's victory will not be all puppy dogs and sunshine for Canada. I see that there is going to be a 25% tariff across the board for Canada and Mexico. Hopefully its just a negotiation ploy.

Why the hell would Melania care? She has nude pics plastered all over the internet. Maybe she likes thinking about FBI agents riffling through her underwear drawer.

It seems that this aspect of the Steele dossier is forgotten (from Wikipedia)
"Two research operations and confusion between them
The opposition research conducted by Fusion GPS on Donald Trump was in two distinct operations, each with a different client. First were the Republicans, funded by The Washington Free Beacon. Then came the Democrats, funded by the DNC and the Clinton campaign.
    • The Republican operation, from October 2015 to May 2016, focused on Trump's domestic business and entertainment activities; was performed by Fusion GPS; and used Wayne Barrett's files and public sources. Immediately after the publication of the dossier, the media sometimes falsely assumed that the dossier started as a product of this research, so the Free Beacon released this statement: "none of the work product that the Free Beacon received appears in the Steele dossier".[35][36]
    • The Democratic operation, from April 2016 to December 2016, was focused on Trump's Russian connections; was subcontracted to Steele/Orbis; and used Steele's own source network and public sources. Only this second operation produced the dossier.[37][38]
Very disingenuous, but not unexpected, of you to always overlook the first operation and focus only on the democrat operation.
As for 'rifling' through her underwear drawer, perhaps if her spouse had returned government property after multiple reasonable legal requests over far too many months, they wouldn't have needed a valid and necessary search warrant to 'rifle' through her undergarments. If he stores them in a bathroom, what would prevent him from storing them in her bedroom?

Sure, politics is rotten when you allow unlimited money to corrupt the system. I still believe at least a minority of politicians want to serve honourably, but hard to buck a corrupt system.

I am hearing that Trump is not allowing the FBI to do background checks on his cabinet picks. I wonder why?
Probably because of the efforts of the FBI to frame his 2016 cabinet picks using the Steele Dossier which was totally made up and paid for by Hillary Clinton. There has already been a fairly deep dive into what happened over his last term as president and it is understandable that he wouldn't trust the FBI at this point. It is a bit weird that they were rifling through Melania's underwear drawer.

That is not accurate, Mr. Legal Beagle. The accurate statement is:
Mr. Bragg accuses Mr. Trump of using unlawful activity of being inaccurate in tax returns (which was otherwise a time-elapsed misdemeanor, already deemed so immaterial as to not worth pursuing legally by tax authorities) to call the politically damaging information of "handsomely paying a porn star" a "legal expense". Neither "handsomely paying a porn star", nor simply calling it a "legal expense" are in themselves illegal, but using the unlawful activity to do so is a felony...
The twisted nature of this accusation was very apparent to the majority of American citizens! Correct me if I am wrong, Mr. Legal Beagle.

    Trump's Legal Problems - Criminal Case # 3 (Of 4) – Falsifying Corp. Docs # 1 (Hush Money)

Prosecutor: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, under New York Attorney General, Letitia James. Senior Counsel to the DA is Matthew Colangelo, with Ms. Susan Hoffinger.

Manhattan Criminal Court Charge: Falsifying corporate documents # 1

34 counts of falsification of New York business records in an attempt to cover up hush-money payments to Stephanie A. Gregory Clifford, known professionally as Stormy Daniels, an American pornographic film actress, director and former stripper. Stephanie claims she had an extramarital affair with Trump, which he vehemently denies.
Mr. Bragg further accuses Mr. Trump of trying to hide “damaging information and unlawful activity from American voters before and after the 2016 election". Public disclosure of this could have derailed Trump's stunning victory in the 2016 presidential election.

Note: Mr. Bragg seeks a "felony" conviction for what would normally be a "misdemeanor".

Judge Marchan has given Trump's lawyers 2 weeks to submit an application for dismissal of the case!!

The Prosecutor is given 1 week to file its response.

Will this case just go away, even though a conviction is already registered, with sentencing indefinitely delayed?
