    on line favorite columnists

I enjoy reading Jeremy Silmans regular columns (even tho they are geared to average and beginning tournament players ) Another that I enjoy is GM Serper. His latest: Magnus Carlsen's Biggest Secret is food for thought. Where: chess.com. Great resources there if you know how to use them. Just enough to whet your appetite and easy reading but make you apply your chess skills.

    Re: on line favorite columnists

Richard James in the UK, along with GM Nigel Davies et al, writes an occasional column at The Chess Improver which is short and to the point.

Richard is also the author of a number of publications in which he argues for a more European approach to teaching chess, which I agree with, and which can be contrasted with the typical North American approach: in the latter, an aspiring beginner learns the moves at home and then joins a club, after which they tend to move the pieces aimlessly about the board, without any sort of plan whatsoever, and often reach their chess ceiling far too soon and abandon efforts at improvement; in the former, an aspiring beginner learns at a chess club, from the start, not necessarily playing with all the pieces, learning the strengths of each piece, etc., and thereby building a better foundation upon which future learning can take place. This approach is also very useful when, for example, you have 60 or 80 children in a room (which I sometimes do) and you run out of full chess sets. lol.

    On line favorite columnists

    February 12, 2018

My favorites on chess.com are batgirl and gserper.

Greg Serper's most recent offering is about tricking your opponent. A position from that article:

This is a version of the famous Saavedra position and White has the win - right?

    Better read the column:

One of my favorites is Wayne Komer - his summaries of the big events he reports on have saved me dozens of hours over the years. I hope you continue !
