And, with two rounds to go (one against Thomas R-R) Mark is undefeated too!

      Woohoo. Way to go Mark.

I see now that Mark defeated Thomas R-R in the second last round and had a draw in the last round to win outright with undefeated 10/13 !

        WELL DONE Mark!

I notice that two players, one from Poland, one from China forfeited their last round games. It seems sleeping through an early final round is not something that only happens in Canada!:D:p:)

That's true but that's a flaw with the system, not the aspiring players, and if they CAN qualify for a title but lose their chance just because someone couldn't be bothered to show up for a game, I would feel sorry for them.

The main webpage has Photo Gallery (http://www.freeweb.hu/firstsaturday/0806/photos.htm ), but Mark's photo has a wrong link (the name spelling as well)

                  The correct link http://www.freeweb.hu/firstsaturday/...shtein_can.JPG

                  There is Roussel-Roozmon too :)

Do they plan to stay in Europe till Olympiad?

I've looked through winners games, and the best one (IMHO):

You're right, but ... it does sort-of work as a phonetical rendering in Hungarian! Magyar s = English sh.

Re: Mark Bluvshtein - big lead in Hungary

Regarding that picture of Mark... I notice the "European style" Bishops - where the tops are the opposite colour. Personally, I find that distracting (and as anyone knows who has played me, I don't need further distraction!). Anyone else feel the same?

I have always wondered why that convention was adopted and why it seems only on sets in (some?) European countries... anyone have any information about this?

[PS: sorry if I am slaggin Europe or the EU - it just seems that way]

Thank you for the tip. I still have one similar set :D Even worse - kings and queens have opposite colored crowns.

anyone have any information about this?
                        Not me.
