  • Life is not a game of chess ...

It would seem that Rabbi Michoel Gourarie would take exception to both Benjamin Franklin's and Garry Kasparov's 'life is a game of chess' quotes. The reference to Rabbi Reb Yechiel, who refused to take up the game of chess since you could not retract a move, might amuse some (it did me).

Great players are always doing what the rabbi said --- although they should probably add the concept of forgiveness.

When I was a junior (now that's going back a long way) an old Rabbi and an old Minister used to play each other and talk. I joked they were probably discussing theology, but who really knows.
