  • Aurora CC - Back to School

Not as regular students, we will come back to school the next Monday, September 9th. The meeting starts at 6 pm, and door closes at 10:30 pm. On the schedule a chit-chat and a blitz tournament (It should start as usual 6:45 pm.)

The club's execs prepared a whole season schedule. In two weeks (Sept 16) players could start a 4-weeks (rounds) warm-up for the Aurora Fall Open. We will try to get it CFC-rated just before the Open. The time control 1:45 min and games starts at 6:30 pm. Details at http://www.aurorachessclub.ca/?p=2875 . Later blitz/rapid/again serious chess etc.

If you wish to come and look around there are directions http://www.aurorachessclub.ca/?page_id=2616 If you'll like the club - you join it! (about memberships)

There is still a lot of seats to fill.

Of course we all look forward to the Open. Though it is a matter for other thread :)

Egis, do you advertise in the local newspaper? Usually they advertise such clubs free, or they used do it free.

Maybe you have the Aurora Banner in your area.

We had one advertisement. I could hardly find it even I knew it was there. We had better success with a general article about the club. People noticed it and came for a visit, some stuck forever LOL

I think we are building good relationships with media: We were Snap'ped. The Summer Open got exposure by a photographer. Rogers TV made us celebrities LOL

        Update:

On September 9 we will have a round-robin blitz (5 min) event. Sections of up to 20 players. Be ready to stay till 10 pm or later. (Though we may create a special group to finish by 9 pm)

Prizes - TBA. Books/magazines & older chess software.

Please bring a clock. The club has some but it might be not sufficient for crowds.

20 players came, laughed, and enjoyed the game of chess.
Mickey Stein finished first in a long blitz marathon around the table.
