    I got this from the USCF. Anyone looking to make norms should probably pay attention. Great tournament with a great organizer. Reasonable charges for the weekend event.


    MICHIGAN CHESS FESTIVAL LLC INVITES YOU TO THE THIRD ANNUAL FALL CHESS FESTIVAL

    ADOBA HOTEL, DEARBORN, MICHIGAN (SUBURBAN DETROIT)�� OCTOBER 23-27, 2013

    The Fall Festival presents chess players with two distinct, but related tournaments.

    ** The �featured� event is a 9 round, 5 day, FIDE rated Swiss, �norms possible�. One round on Wednesday, October 23, then two rounds the next four days. Time limits: the FIDE standard 40/90, SD 30 plus 30 second increment. Rounds start: 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, and 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

    Open to players with FIDE titles, USCF players over 2199, FIDE over 2100 and a limited number of talented junior players.

    Entry fee: $225 before October 1, $250 between October 1 and October 16, $300 after October 16. Registration will close at 5:30 p.m. on October 23, to allow the TD ample time to �pair� the first round.

    Guaranteed prizes:

    1st $4,500, 2nd $2,500, 3rd $1,500, 4th $800, 5th $500, 6th $200��� PLUS U2400 (FIDE) 1st $1,000, 2nd $500 U2250 FIDE 1st $500� (Note this is a trophies plus Grand Prix event!)

    Boards, clocks and sets will be provided for the 9 round event! The FIDE qualified arbiter will be Sisira Amarasinghe.

    NEWS FLASH: To date, many prominent players have committed to compete in the 9 round event, including GMs Gareev, Ipatov, Shulman, Gelashvili, Lenderman, Perelshteyn, Kekelidze, Macieja, Finegold, Friedel, and GM elect Molner, as well as IMs such as Bartholomew, Kiewra, and Panjawani.

    ** Also, there will be a typical 5 round �weekend Swiss,� with multiple Sections.� Choice of two or three day schedules for those in the �Open,� U1800, and U1400 Sections. For these multiple day schedules, the Rounds start as follows:

    3 Day Schedule: Friday: 7:00 p.m., Saturday 11:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m., Sunday 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Time limits: 40/2, SD 1, d0. Registration closes Friday 6:30 p.m.

    2 Day Schedule: Saturday: 10:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. then merge with 3-day schedule for rounds 3 through 5. Time limits: First two rounds G/90, d0, rounds 3-5 as in 3 day schedule. Registration closes Saturday 9:30 a.m.

    OPEN Section:� EF $80 before October 1, $90 between October 1 and October 16, $105 after October 16.�� FLASH: GM Sergey Kudrin will compete in the �Open� Section!

    Prizes: 1st $1,000, 2nd $600, 3rd $400, 4th $200� ALSO U2200: 1st $450 2nd $250 3rd $100 � and� U2000 1st $400, 2nd $200 3rd $100�� (Note this is a trophies plus Grand Prix event!)



    U1800 Section: EF $60 before October 1, $70 between October 1 and October 16, $85 after October 16

    Prizes: 1st $600, 2nd $300, 3rd $200� ALSO� U1600 1st $350, 2nd $250, 3rd: $106� (note, this was a �typo� in original publicity, but we�ll honor it! Six extra dollars in prize money).

    U1400 Section: EF $40 before October 1, $50 between October 1 and October 16, $65 after October 16.

    Prizes; 1st $400, 2nd $250, 3rd $150�� AND U1200 1st $250, 2nd $150.

    The U1000 Section will be a one day event, Saturday October 26. G/30, d0. Rounds: 10:00, 11:20, 1:15, 2:35, 3:55. Registration closes Saturday 9:30 a.m.

    Entry Fee: $25. Trophies and medals, no cash prizes. Trophies to 1st, 2nd, 3rd overall, and 1st U800, 1st U 600, 1st U400. Awards to all scoring 3.0 or better.

    NOTE: For the 5 round tourneys, players should bring clocks, sets, and boards. The TD will be Senior TD Ed Mandell.

    � Well known author FM Graham Burgess returns to the Fall Festival again this year; he will enrich the event with commentary and analysis, as well as representing Gambit Publishing.

    Important �membership� note: Michigan residents must be USCF and MCA members. All players must be USCF members. These rules apply to all parts of the Fall Festival.
