Luke Vellotti is an American 14-year-old IM who has already started university!

His web page is also worth checking out. He's obviously a kid with many, many talents.

Chesstalkers (especially youth) take notice! A very motivated kid totally supported by family (they have actually moved to UCLA to support Luke and his older brother going to the same university). I know very few go to university at age 14 but the big point is that despite Luke being a young chess star (IM strength) the family has done many other admirable things like initiating many charitable events. He even initiated a connection with me on Linked In and their websites are very professional looking. I am looking forward to meeting him in St. Louis. Thanks Jack for pointing out another great article.

      Hi Hans,

I think most Canadian kids are motivated. While nobody here will likely agree with me, and I may be wrong, it's my personal opinion the chess programs and many events are not suitable to properly develop the chess skills of youngsters.
