  • Question about chessCaptor

I have been using ChessCaptor for many years. It is simply the best app for creating , editing and capturing multiple diagrams.I bought a license for this software many years ago. The company seems to have gone out of business so I can't appeal to them for tech help.

Does anyone know why this program can't be installed on a 64 bit pc (running win 8.0 ,also won't work with Win 7 ) ?

Is it a common problem that "older software will not work on such systems? I have written some vba macro/scripts that work hand and hand with chesscaptor, would be a shame if these programs become ashtrays.

Hoping there are some people on chesstalk familiar with chesscaptor in all it's glory.
    Thanks, Bill Evans

I had the same problem with an old 16 bit program. The only way to run it was under Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 Professional. Check http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/w...indows-xp-mode
Unfortunately Windows XP Mode is not supported on Windows 8

      Re: Question about chessCaptor

Other possibilities to try (if it is a 16-bit program?) may be:

      1. DOSBOX http://www.dosbox.com/

      and http://www.howtogeek.com/104725/how-...-and-old-apps/

      2. VIRTUALBOX start here: http://lifehacker.com/5714966/five-b...e-applications

      hope this helps.

I use DOSBOX to run a version of Duke Nukem and it runs great.
