Vlad told he would write something in the morning. I prefer to take pictures and share then write about :)

Speeches/Toasts/Thnx [Vlad Dobrich, Eddie Urquhart, Brian Fiedler)

The happy winner - GM Eric Hansen

    One of his wins

    2 FM ≠ 1 GM (2 FM not equal 1 GM) - Y.Zhang and R.Preotu

It was fun during the tournament (Dougherty)

It was fun after the tournament (Vlad's showing/playing his favorite End game.)

Never ever enough chess for this man (guess who? :)

Re: 50 years Toronto Rapid Chess - pictures

Thanks for the great pics, Egis and since the full X-table is there as well I have not much I can add except to congratulate the winners and to thank all who showed up.
The above pics are the best chess themed I have seen. They certainly rival that of Mr Farrent-Diaz and his iconic photo of Bator Sambuev at a Hart House tournament.
Perhaps at the next major Toronto tournament someone would create a gallery of the best chess photos - our chess historian Eric Malmsten comes to mind. Eric?
Meanwhile back to the Rapid. The key game was the encounter Gerzhoy-Hansen in round four. A sharp tactical mid-game resulted in a winning endgame for Eric - although busy as I was with the pairings and x-tables I only got to see brief snatches of the game so someone else could perhaps comment more knowledgeably.
This was a well deserved win for Eric who continues to perform at GM level.
And I might add a good part of the reason for the strong turnout was Eric's name among the advance entries. Thank you Eric et al.

Regarding the second video: I had seen that my opponent had flagged from probably before the video started. Essentially it was a faux-mate as I was indirectly calling the flag.

It's too bad you didn't record the end of my next round game where, after being in a totally lost position to someone whom I'd never lost to in a Saturday Rapid, my opponent allowed a mate in 1 which I delivered with a "CHECKMATE!" with which he burst out with "OH F_CK!" turning several heads.

A picture of the delightful complimentary buffet lunch from the sponsors is provided. If only I was as good at snatching pieces and pawns as I was the wings, mozza sticks, pepper poppers and the beers on ice :p Well worth the entry fee ;)

Completely forgot: several pictures were taken by Mr. Zhang (a Yuanchen's dad) who took a camera while I was still playing and made nice shots. Thnx.
